Meet The Team
Nick Gilmore- Podiatry/ Chiropody
I graduated from Salford University School of Podiatry in 2001. I then started work where I had been on student placements with the NHS. During these 5 years I developed and experienced a wide range of Podiatry and Multidisciplinary skills.
During this time I decided to expand into private practice. Looking for premises to buy led us to a chiropody practice in Heaton Moor that had been run successfully for 25 years by the previous owner. Alyson and I have been running the Moorside Clinic now since December 2006.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my two daughters. When I can I play lacrosse for Heaton Mersey Lacrosse Club, having played at club, county and international levels over the years but now my bruises are taking a week or two longer to go I am trying to play socially now.
Ben Farrelly- Physiotherapist
Whilst studying for his BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science, Ben developed an interest in Physiotherapy. He pursued this interest, successfully completing his Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy at Leeds Metropolitan University. Upon completion of his physiotherapy degree, Ben undertook his first post working in a private hospital in Penang, Malaysia. He found this to be an enlightening experience and thoroughly enjoyed working with people from diverse cultures/backgrounds.
Prior to securing his post at Metro Physio, Ben gained further valuable experience working in a musculoskeletal clinic for Wirral PCT. Ben has worked at our Stockport Clinic since 2008 and been involved in many exciting projects and promotions. Most recently, he has set up a specific runner’s assessment which includes a filmed gait analysis.
Ben is always looking to professionally develop himself, completing a variety of postgraduate courses including Orthopaedic Medicine, Taping, Pilates, Running Injury courses, First Aid in Sport courses and Acupuncture. Ben has a special interest in Sports related injuries, particularly running, boxing and football. He has worked with numerous elite athletes and teams and is currently working part time with a local premiership football club academy. As well as being an avid sports fan, Ben competes for Salford Mets Athletic Club on the road, track and cross country.
Mandy McDonald- Receptionist/ Admin
After having a fulfilling international dancing career for over 12 years, my work is mainly focused on teaching at my dancing school in Stockport.
I enjoy spending my spare time with family and friends eating out and going to the theatre, but most of all I like walking my two dogs Teddy and Bear!!
I was thrilled to join the team at The Moorside Clinic in April 2019 and really enjoy working here.
James Sweeney- Physiotherapist
James first found his interest in Physical Therapy when studying Biology and Physical Education at College. He then continued to pursue this passion at the University of Bolton, where he graduated with a First Class Honours in Sport Rehabilitation in 2017. James first worked with Wigan Athletic FC and in private Physiotherapy clinics prior to securing his post at Metro Physio. He is very keen to continue working in the private and sport settings so alongside his role at Metro Physio he continues to work with the Bolton Wanderers FC Academy.
During James’s time within Championship level football clubs and Private physiotherapy clinics he has seen a multitude of musculoskeletal injuries and had in-depth training into various specialist treatment techniques. He has also successfully completed the Immediate Care in Sport level 2 qualification run by the RFU, alongside various first aid courses. He has a keen interest in treating sport related injuries as well as common problems such as lower back pain. He is very eager to further increase his knowledge and techniques so hopes to soon complete a Masters in Physiotherapy as well as specialist courses. Alongside continuous development and studying, James likes to keep active by going to the gym and playing football regularly

Jayne Mason- Receptionist/ Admin
Having worked in Early Years for 35 years in partnership with SMBC and MCC including running my own pre-school business for 8 years, my career moved in a very different direction in 2015 when I joined Nick and the team at The Moorside Clinic as a receptionist combined with another new role of carer for my mother.
I feel the most rewarding side of my role at the clinic is meeting people and juggling appointments to suit everyone’s individual needs.
In my spare time I enjoy travelling around watching my 3 adult ‘children’ play semi-professional football and meeting up with friend in the many café bars in Heaton Moor for brunch.
