Footwear

Orthotics at The Moorside Clinic offer modular and made to measure footwear for both adults and children.

Orthotic footwear can accommodate

  • Feet that do not fit into standard footwear due to increased width, depth, swelling
  • Foot deformities (large bunions, clawed toes & other deformities making footwear fitting difficult)
  • Feet that require extra protection eg. diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, neuropathy

Paediatric footwear can be provided to children who require additional stability for walking due to global developmental delay, hypermobility, tip toe walking and neurological conditions.

Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs)

AFOs are orthotic devices mainly prescribed for people with reduced strength in the muscles that lift the foot up when walking. Orthotics at The Moorside Clinic provide a range of off-the-shelf AFOs. AFOs can be soft wraps, plastic, carbon fibre, silicon or 3D printed.  They are usually fitted into the wearers own footwear and are relatively low profile.

AFOs are commonly used to:

  • Stabilise the joints within the foot and ankle
  • Improve walking quality and duration
  • Treat foot drop
  • Reduce risk of trips and falls
  • Improve posture of the foot and ankle
  • Prevent or control deformity of the foot and ankle
  • Reduce pain

Knee braces

Orthotics at The Moorside clinic offer expert advice on knee bracing systems which can relieve pain from knee injuries. We offer a range of knee braces from low profile, light, compressive braces to functional knee braces that are used for the more serious injuries like ligament damage.

We also offer knee braces for knee osteoarthritis. (OA) knee braces apply forces to the knee to offload pressure from the affected area, reducing bone on bone contact, and with it reduces pain.

Knee braces are commonly used for

  • Knee instability
  • Ligament injury
  • Knee pain
  • Knee Osteoarthritis
  • Patellar femoral problems
  • Patellar instability
  • Restricting movement to allow for healing
  • Reducing injury risk (especially for sports like skiing and motocross where knee injury risk is increased)

Other bracing and supports

We offer a range of bracing and supports for conditions and injuries affecting all parts of the body.

Examples include:

  • Ankle, back, wrist, elbow and shoulder supports
  • Abdominal binders
  • Hernia supports
